Labor Day

So because today was a holiday Travis had the day off so we decided to spend it in Clarksville at Grammy and papa's house. It is so funny being there because it reminds us of our vacations from the past. Certain smells, rooms, or even the pantry have memories attached to them. We got to grammy's at about 11:30 and we walked in while she was cookin' up a storm. Now if you have ever had grammy's cookin' then you've tasted heaven. It is so good, just ask Mike. Grammy made mashed potatoes, meatloaf, five bean salad, rolls, and gravy, and all of it tasted wonderful. In fact Travis had a second plate and still wasn't full. He must store food in his feet in case of a food shortage or something. This is his second plate. He eats a ton!!! After we ate we talked for awhile and the boys did their thing, sat and watched t.v. out in the garage.
Grammy showed me something very special, her wedding dress. This dress is 47 years old and you can tell by some of the thread shredding. My grandparents didn't have a lot of money when they got married so they invited everyone who wanted to come to the church (the church that my dad grew up in) and it wasn't by invitations mind you but by word of mouth. They paid five dollars to get married there and grammy's wedding dress was only $12.99 and she said that was a lot of money back then. They have no wedding pictures or anything just grammy's dress from their special day. Grammy also showed me her negligee from her wedding night. She said that she has no idea where the gown went that she wore underneath it. It was very special to me and to be able to share that with her, especially at this time in my life.

So after memory lane we went and sat down on the couch and did what girls do best, talked.
The day is always great at grammy and papa's house, it always makes me relax and feels like home.

  3. Grammy froze the Mississippi Mud Cake when Mom gave it to her. So she defrosted that and made a chocolate sauce to go over it. Papa loaded up on the chocolate sauce, too. But it was very good.

  4. AAhhh Ash!!! I love it...You are awesome...and I am sooo glad you get to have this time with Grammy...You have had a lot of years missed with them and this is a great time to get to know those parts of their past...which actually is your heritage. That's so cool...Ask lots of questions...it's really cool to know that stuff before they are too old to remember.
