Gasoline Madness

Friday was just absolutely crazy!!! Gas stations were running out of gas in just a few hours. Travis was driving home trying to find a gas station to fill up but there were none where he works and even where we live, mind you he works about 25 minutes away. People freaked out and starting filling up their vehicles and then filled up gas cans. Truckers couldn't bring in the gas fast enough. So Travis and I decided we wanted to go out to dinner Friday night before he went out with the guys for a little guy time. We took the Expedition because it had some gas in it but it was going to need some as well. Dad said something about a gas station on highway 70 that had just gotten gas from a trucker so we decided to go see if they still had some left even after it had been a couple hours. We get there and couldn't believe that the line was so long it was backed up to the freeway. Some how we made it into a line of four or five cars. We started waiting at 5:20 and the cars were backed up to the main street. We finally got to a pump at about 6 o'clock. We pumped gas for over an hour. The gas stations slowed the pumps down so slow that it took over an hour to pump 15 gallons of gas. At about 7:15 they shut the pumps down and told everyone that the gas was gone. By that time we had made friends with the people around us. They guy across from us was more than an hour late for a first date because of the wait to pump gas and the guy next to us was just traveling through Tennessee to go back home to Texas. He said, "When I fill up I'm driving as far away as possible." If we would of been one car behind where we were at we wouldn't of gotten any gas at all. It was crazy!!!

I took this picture from the gas station and the over pass was the freeway. Thats how far it was backed up. All the cars to the left were in line to get gas and the ones to the right were just trying to get past the madness.

This picture was when we got to pull into the gas station parking lot. We had already been waiting for awhile.

Gas prices were going up so fast that the gas stations couldn't even put numbers on the board.

Like I said it was just pure madness. Travis did get gas in his truck the next day when a gas station had received some and it was just as bad as this was.

  2. I'm so glad you posted this! I was wanting to but didn't have any pictures to back up my story! When we were trying to get Mike to the guys thing, it was dark and people were blocking the intersection trying to cut in front of other people! People were honking their horns like crazy and yelling at eachother! It was pretty freaky! I gassed up on Friday, pulled right in, got gas, and about an hour later, I drove by again and they were out! I got there just in time! Mike had to wait at Costco yesterday to get gas in his truck. He didn't have enough to even get there, so he borrowed a gas can from Terry, waited in line, filled up the can, came home, got his truck and waited again. It's pretty sad when passer by's want to hurry up and get the heck outta town! LOL. It is complete madness here! :-) (sorry, my comment was long)
